About the Trust and its HistoryA packed public meeting held at the
Arts Centre in Darlington on September 3 2001 formally agreed to set
up the Supporters Trust. New members queued (see picture) to
join as the Trust was established, with the first officers elected
at an AGM in June 2002. The Trust has actively campaigned to save the Club through periods of financial difficulty, including the noteworthy, but unhappy time, when George Reynolds moved the club from its traditional Feethams home to its new stadium at Neasham Road, before a period of financial meltdown hit the football club culminating in the appointment of Administrators. The Darlington Supporters' Trust, in common with other Trusts around the country, pools its skills. It is made up of willing volunteers and fund-raisers. The Trust is one of the many Supporters Trusts which have been set up and is committed to increasing supporter representation and share-owning at football clubs. Recent financial crises in the game - something that Darlington has felt at first hand on a number of occasions - has meant that Trusts have quickly grown into important players - not only in securing the immediate future of clubs, but in having representation at board level and, in some case, ownership.
